How to Build a Travel Trade News Reading List
- One broad source. A general trade publication keeps you aware of everything from airlines to tour operators.
- One advisor-focused source. Something written for people who sell, not for investors or technologists.
- One specialist source for your niche, such as hotels, technology or corporate travel.
- Your suppliers’ own advisor news, through their agent portals and emails.

Regional and specialist titles fill the gaps. TravelAge West is written for advisors in the western states, Business Travel News for the corporate side, PhocusWire for technology and distribution, and CoStar News for hotels. If you sell to a niche, such as meetings and incentives, luxury or adventure, look for the trade title that serves it and add it as your third source. A U.K. title such as TTG gives a second view of European suppliers and destinations.
Skim headlines daily and read deeply once a week. The goal of travel trade news is not to know everything; it is to know what changes your clients’ trips and your business.
When the Trade Press Disagrees
Two publications can report the same figure with different framing. When that happens, go to the source they cite. For agency air sales that means the ARC newsroom; for inbound visits, the National Travel and Tourism Office; for airport throughput, the TSA checkpoint travel numbers. Our page on whether travel is growing walks through those sources.
