Travel Industry Daily FAQ

Is Travel Industry Daily a news site?

No. It is a guide to travel industry news sources and how to read them. We do not publish stories or press releases.

Which publications should a new advisor read?

One broad trade publication, one advisor-focused source and the emails of the suppliers you sell. Our trade news page lists the main publishers and what each covers.

Are trade publications free?

Many publish news free on their websites and offer email newsletters; some content or data products are paid. Check each publisher.

Where can I find official travel statistics?

For the U.S.: the U.S. Travel Association’s forecasts, ARC’s monthly agency sales, the National Travel and Tourism Office’s arrivals data and TSA’s checkpoint numbers.

How do I verify a story before telling a client?

Open the original source the story cites, check the date and period, and confirm with the supplier when a booking is affected.

What about cruise news?

Our sister site Cruise Industry Daily covers the cruise trade press, CLIA’s report, statistics and the orderbook.

Why do two stories give different numbers for the same thing?

They may use different periods (a month versus year to date), different measures (visits versus spending) or different editions of a forecast. Find the original release and compare like with like.

What does it mean when a report is a forecast?

A forecast is an estimate of what will happen, based on assumptions. It is revised as new data arrives, so quote it with its date and source.

Can I share trade news with my clients?

Share what it means for them, in your own words, and link to the original where it helps. Do not copy whole articles; publishers own their content.

How do I find news about a specific supplier?

Start with the supplier’s advisor portal and newsroom, then search the trade publications by the supplier’s name. Suppliers usually announce policy changes to advisors first.

Is there a single daily email that covers everything?

No single email covers every sector well. A broad trade newsletter plus your association email and your suppliers’ updates cover most of what matters.

How much time should I spend on news each day?

About fifteen focused minutes is enough for most advisors, plus a longer weekly read. See our travel agent news page for a simple routine.

Do I need to follow international trade press?

If you sell Europe or work with U.K. suppliers, a U.K. title such as TTG is a useful second view. Otherwise, U.S. trade press covers most of what U.S. advisors need.
